Ducts are used to provide a passage for ventilation, heating and air conditioning. When properly installed, they ensure the delivery of quality air into any home or building. Having good, solid ducts is essential if quality air is to be provided. They must be able to supply, return and evacuate air.
Galvanized mild steel is most commonly used in building ducts. It has a zinc coating that prevents the channel from rusting. Workshop ducts can be made in a variety of ways to suit specific situations.
These ducts, as a rule, are produced with duct wrapping so that they are quieter and eliminate the loss of hot or cold air that would occur without insulation. Some ductwork produced today feature rigid insulation panels that require no further lining and can be formed and installed instantly. This protection against air loss provides cost-effective operation with lower electricity bills.
Aluminum channel work is popular due to its light weight, which makes it easy to install. The aluminum sheets used are normally pre-insulated panels. After being cut to size, the duct sections are joined with glue and aluminum tape is applied to the seams.
